ON PURPOSE

Purpose, broken down, simply means to put forth.  It is the intention that is set at the forefront of our lives.  Much larger than the segments of career and monetary profitability, to which we often attempt to limit it, purpose is an all encompassing message about the custom design of our lives that speaks for itself when people experience us.

I was supposed to write this piece - On Purpose - for a New Year’s Day 2020 release.  After a year of self-doubt disguised as procrastination, I was finally able to do two things that we all can do to discover and progress in our unique purpose- clarify it and move in it.

Finding your purpose is all about the process of clarifying who you are in relation to the world around you.  Getting clear requires transparency.  It may sound like a given, but are you able to see through your own walls and persona to your true thoughts, feelings, and motives?  Investigating these things with honesty can put you on a clearer path to knowing the genuine overarching message that your unique attributes and experiences communicate to others.

While you are engaged in that process, it can be tempting to ideate perpetually - constantly thinking about and planning for your next move instead of actually moving.  Movement is integral to progress.  To take a step in the right direction, you must take a step!

The great thing about clarity and movement is that they optimally function interdependently.  As we take steps, we experience things that illuminate who we really are.  As we gain more insight on our true selves, we tend to have a little more pep in our steps.

In the year that I delayed writing this, I was able to gain clarity on my own purpose - developing people and community through the power of words - as well as, take affirmative steps in that direction - one of which being this piece.  This year, may we all continue to clarify and act on purpose.
